Every year thousands of our military service people are faced with the concern of what to do with their personal dogs while they're training, deployed or on a TDY Assignment (temporary duty).
Some of our country's heroes have family members who are willing and able to care for their pets while they're on active duty. Many others, however, don't have that option.
Absent a viable boarding alternative, a large number of our U.S. soldiers wind up making the gut-wrenching decision to turn their canine companions over to nearby shelters, often never to see them again.
Knowing how much sacrifice is already involved in being a member of our armed forces we, at the Barking Barracks, identified a way to help our service people say one less "goodbye".
The Barking Barracks is a 501(c)3, charitable organization that provides mid-range and long-term boarding options for our service people's dogs, at little to now cost, while their active duties take them away from home. This allows them to serve a bit more worry free, knowing their best friend is well cared for and waiting for their return.
In addition, The Barking Barracks is a community of helping others, therefore, we will whenever possible seek U.S. veterans to fill our volunteer and paid positions. We feel that there is a special synergy created when veterans at home are helping active duty soldiers who are still away, everyone benefits.
As nationwide recipients of all the good that comes from the sacrifices our service people make on our behalf, we invite you to join in our mission to:
"Help Our Heroes Say One Less 'Goodbye'".
